I Notai sono chiamati dal vigente sistema giuridico italiano a svolgere numerose funzioni. Il corpo normativo che ne disciplina la professione attribuisce ai Notai principalmente tre attività: la certificazione, l’adeguamento del contenuto degli atti notarili alla volontà delle parti e il controllo della loro conformità alla Legge. Tali attività sono affidate dal potere pubblico ai Notai per la realizzazione di molteplici scopi. Il tramite del Notaio assicura allo Stato e ai cittadini, nell’epoca della complessità normativa, l’applicazione uniforme del diritto. Le funzioni notarili paiono oggi simili a quelle dei Notai che esercitavano il ministero nelle ere passate, ma la loro realizzazione si declina secondo le originali esigenze della società contemporanea. Perciò, sempre più, l’attività notarile si svolge con l’ausilio della tecnologia informatica, che - se sapientemente utilizzata - si svela fondamentale strumento per l’esercizio della professione.

Public Notaries are called upon to carry out several functions within the current Italian legal system. The regulatory body that disciplines the profession attributes three main activities to Public Notaries: certification, adaptation of the contents of Notary acts according to the desires of the parties and control of their compliance to Law. These activities are attributed by public power to the Notaries for the execution of several objectives
The role of the Notary guarantees the Government and citizens, in the era of norm-related complexity, consistent application of the law. The functions of a Notary are currently very similar to those that Ministries used to carry out in past decades, but their implementation moves more towards the original demands of a contemporary society. Therefore Notaries carry out their activities, more and more, with the help of information technology which, if wisely used, turns out to be a vital instrument for execution of this profession.
